How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join two pieces together of wood. We will be using the "pocket-hole joint", which involves drilling holes in wood and then gluing them together. This works well if the wood is straight and smooth. Dowel joinery might be a better option if your wood is not straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. Measure and mark the location where you would like to place the pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both ends of the wood. Allow the wood to rest for five minutes before clamping it together.
  4. Secure the pieces together. After the glue has dried completely, you can clamp the pieces together until they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

Allow enough space between pieces so you can turn them inside out.
